Barracuda Films is the new production company of Matthias Ehrenberg, founded in 2014 with the goal to make international productions and co-productions with quality content and meaningful stories that connect with all kinds of audiences.
Barracuda is characterized by the optimization of resources and the concentration of the endeavors of its partners and investors with the creative crew to find and make solid projects that will generate box office maximizing their own sustainability .
Barracuda team has experience in co-financing with sponsors (product placement) and access to awards and “soft money” financing.
Matthias Ehrenberg has worked in the film industry since the 1990’s. To date he has participated in over 30 Mexican and international productions.
The musical drama Gloria, based on the life story of controversial pop/rock icon Gloria Trevi is his latest production. The film was nominated in 14 categories by the Mexican Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and was honored with five awards.
In August, 2010, the film It’s not you, It’s me, directed by Alejandro Springall was released to great success. The movie, starring Eugenio Derbez, became the highest grossing Mexican film of the year.
Matthias is known as one of the producers with more commercial success in the Mexican film industry. He is also producer of Sex, Shame and Tears directed by Antonio Serrano, considered one of the greatest successes of Mexican cinema, it broke sales records and was held for 27 weeks in theaters. The movie also was winner of 5 awards granted by the Mexican Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The Other Family, directed by Gustavo Loza; Chance by Abner Benaim; Amar a Morir directed by Fernando Lebrija; Optical Fiber by Francisco Athie; The Cannibal’s Daughter (Lucía, Lucía) by Antonio Serrano; Life Kills directed by Nicolás Echevarria; A Breakfast Chronicle by Benjamín Cann and Blue Room by Walter Doehner are also part of his filmography.
Matthias is recognized internationally because he was Associate Producer and Line Producer of Before Night Falls by the prestigious painter and director Julian Schnabel.
He also produced the film adaptation of the Colombian novel by Jorge Franco, Rosario Tijeras, directed by Emilio Maillé, nominated for a Goya award in the best Spanish language film category. The film broke sale records in Colombia in 2005.
In 2007, Satanás based on the novel by Mario Mendoza and directed by Andrés Baiz was an enormous success in Colombia, and received honorable mention at the San Sebastián International Film Festival.
In 2013 he released in South America Yvy Maraey: Land Without Evil, a coproduction Mexico-Bolivia directed by Juan Carlos Valdivia. The film is recognized for its participation in the “Native Indigenous Cinema” program at the Berlin International Film Festival.
In October 2014, Ehrenberg released the english remake of argentinian box office success, Elsa & Fred, directed by Michael Radford and starring by Shirley MacLaine and Christopher Plummer.
Matthias is the founder of Rio Negro Producciones and Barracuda Films and partner of Cinenomada Mexico, companies with a wide range of experience in film production.
He is currently in postproduction of the Mexican remake of argentinian film Corazón de León and is preparing the road movie Soren by Juan Carlos Valdivia and Los trapos sucios se lavan en casa, a remake of comedy Chance.
